Thisvi is built on the ruins of the homonymous ancient city. The area had been inhabited since 2000 BC and it was one of the most powerful cities of Boeotia.

Nowadays, the ruins of Ancient Thisvi are located in “Kakosia”; stamps, remains of ceramic ware and a beehive tomb. On Palaiokastro Hill there is the fortified citadel of Ancient Thisvi, while on the hill of Neokastro a part of the wall of the lower city is still preserved.

On the mound of Domvraina, very close to Thisvi, there is the castle of Karaiskakis. On the northeast side of Domvraina, at an altitude of 700 meters, there is the Monastery of Panagia Makariotissa, which was founded in the 12th century. What is more, at the foot of Helicon, near Prodromos Settlement, there is the monastery of Hosios Seraphim, devoted to the Transfiguration of Christ.

In the wider area of Thisvi there are several beaches. At a very short distance from Thisvi there is the inlet of Alyki, with the turquoise waters. Alyki is ideal for swimming and water ski, 16 kilometers away from Thisvi there is Saranti beach. On the northwest of Thisvi, there is also the sandy beach of Agios Nikolaos.
