LOCAL PRODUCTS

The region of Boeotia is famous for its dairy products, especially cheese. Taste the famous Parnassuss feta, traditional formaella cheese from Arachova, Opsimotyri or Keremezi, Myzithra and yoghurt from the local farms.  The quality of Boeotian meat is also well known. Meat serves as the basic ingredient of many local recipes.

Boeotia is also famous for its vineyards. Wine production reaches important levels whereas in the region of Davleia, tsipouro is being distilled in the traditional, old-fashioned way.  Furthermore, the biggest olive grove in the region of Boeotia is located in Davleia. The inhabitants produce olive oil and table olives.

BOEOTIAN CUISINE

Traditional Boeotian cuisine is based on local products, that is, meat and cheese. Boeotia’s local dish is lamp giouvetsi. The sarmades wrapped with vine leaves from the local vineyards are also worth a try. Dolmades, various pies and traditionally baked bread are also part of the Boeotian cuisine.

As far as pastry is concerned, the people of Boeotia have a preference for syrupy sweets with walnut, almond and honey. Baklava, walnut sweet and kourampiedes are the most well known sweets in Boeotia. Of course there is always room for the traditional spoon sweets, handmade by the women-members of the women cooperatives of the mountainous villages of Boeotia.
