Arachova is built on the south slopes of Parnassus and it is an ideal winter destination, easily reached from the capital and at a very short distance from the Ski Centre of Parnassus.
The stone-built, traditional houses, the uphill lanes and the natural landscape create an ideal atmosphere, ideal for walks in the city. Wander around and find the traditional taverns with the local cuisine recipes. On the rock above the city, there is the historic clock that was constructed in the 18th century as the belfry of the Church of the Presentation of Virgin Mary, and it was moved to its current position in 1966. In the west exit of the city there is the monument of G. Karaiskakis, where the events for the national holidays take place. Each year on St Georgios’ Day, the patron saint of the city, the festival of St Georgios takes place, with local customs and a great celebration outside the Temple.
At a very small distance from Arachova there is the Archaeological Site of Delphi and the Monastery of Hosios Loukas. You can also organize excursions to the wider area, such as walking jaunts, cycling and mountaineering at Parnassus. Arachova is an ideal winter destination for ski lovers, while those who prefer hiking and jaunts in the nature will enjoy a visit to Arachova in spring.
